Your child’s first session:

The first session is an opportunity for your child and their teacher to get to know each other and work out how we can best help your child with their school work. Our teachers are excellent at building rapport with their students and have lots of ideas to put your child at ease.

Please arrive 5 minutes early for your child’s first session so the teacher can meet you and your child and cover subjects, goals and any other important information.

Tuition session reminders:

Prior to each session you will receive a reminder email (48 hours prior) and text (24 hours prior).

Time:

Each session is 1 hour.

Location  - In Person:

In person tuition takes place at the KTL Tuition Centre, 642 New North Road, Morningside. Parking is available at the back of the building in the car parks marked Kidz Therapy/ KTL Tuition. Please note: Street parking in front of our building is a towaway zone between 4.00pm and 6.00pm on weekdays.

What to bring:

• Please ensure your child brings to each session the subject content they wish to review/learn. This can include specific assignments, material covered in class or exams/ test papers.
• All mobile phones should be switched onto mute or off and out of sight.
• We provide exercise books for in-person students but if your child uses a device at school, please ensure they bring it along as well

Homework:

Homework will be set at the end of each session Typically, it will be 10 – 15 minutes of work on a topic that was covered at tutoring. This helps to consolidate student learning and also lets the tutor know if a topic needs further review. We believe it is best to complete the homework mid-way to the next session so the student applies their long-term memory.

Attendance and cancellations:

Your child’s session is time that is reserved exclusively for them. To ensure we can provide quality tuition services to all of our students we have a strict cancellation policy.

• Schedule Clash: if your child is unable to attend a regular session due to sport or other school commitments, we require at least 48 hours’ notice via an email to ktl.tuition@kidztherapy.co.nz. Letting us know well in advance allows our team the flexibility to accommodate changes.

• Illness: We require at least 4 hours advance notice of cancellation. Tutors will try their best to schedule a make up the lesson. Make up lessons must be used in the current term. Equally if a tutor is unwell, we will contact you and the tutor wlll arrange a make-up lesson.

• No shows When a student does not show up for the online or in person session without prior notification via email or text this means the session will be forfeited with no exceptions. A make up lesson will not be offered as the tutors are paid for the no show and have put time aside for your child.

• Make-up or postponed sessions are not carried over from term to term.

Fees:

Please pre-pay for the term by the date indicated on your invoice (five working days). Payment options include internet banking and online credit card (2.9% surcharge is incurred for credit card transactions).

Unpaid invoices may jeopardise your child’s continued tuition attendance.

Educational Psychology Reports:

If your child has an Educational Psychology report from another company or school tests such as Lucid that you would like our tutors to take into account, please forward it to attention of Marie, (Educational Psychologist) at ktl.tuition@kidztherapy.co.nz . She will bullet point relevant aspects it for the tutor(s) to ensure they use the teaching methods that best suit your child. Marie will also send relevant tip sheets to their tutor(s) if your child has a learning difference.
